Smukkeste nye, originale skæring er Cervinis hyldest til Thelonious Monk, The Monks of Oka.
It is three established and respected Canadian jazz musicians who together form the record-breaking collective – the trio, Tune Town. The three are saxophonist Kelly Jefferson, double bassist Artie Roth and drummer Ernesto Cervini. And you have to pretend that the three of them manage to establish a fresh, joyful and powerful powerplay. Their music is loaded with storytelling – both the new, original music and the two standards found on the record: Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Lady and Cole Porters All Of You. The music swings, lives and breaths. Most beautiful new, original cut is Cervini’s tribute to Thelonious Monk, The Monks of Oka. But in general, the level is high, the energy intense and grounded in an obvious, artistic heaviness, the dissemination obviously obvious. The interaction is eminent. The balance between the interaction and the solo parties ditto. That’s why the trio’s mix of modern jazz, avant-garde and funk also holds. (Translation courtesy of Google Translate)
